How does stress affect health as far as obesity is concerned? We live in a society that demands we do more, be more, and achieve more. Stress moves us forward and helps cope with life's demands, but it also affects our moods and emotions.We deal with so many responsibilities and cope with all sorts of pressure. There are ultimate situations out of our control that are stressful such as natural earth related disorders: Earthquake in Haiti. All this in turn triggers a biochemical process where our bodies go into survival mode. Our body stores fuel, slows down its metabolism, and dump out chemicals such as cortisol, leptin, and other hormones which cause... obesity in the abdominal region. Many people reach for food to help ease their anxieties. "Desserts is Stressed spelled backward... and vice versa" Get the picture...? Of course, food being a temporary fix, it does not deal with the real issue of the problem, and it doesn't work in the long run. "Stress eaters" tend to prefer high-carbohydrate foods because these foods trigger an increase in the brain chemical serotonin, which has a calming effect.It is almost like self-medicating. Many people binge on starchy foods to make themselves feel better. Be assured that relaxation techniques as well as exercise are more suitable in terms of anxiety relief and overall health benefits. Breathe in through the nose. 6. Breathe down into your back and imagine it expanding out. 7. Breathe right down into your tummy. 8. Let your tummy be soft when you breathe in. 9.
